The Criterion Collection
Films from the Janus films catalogue
We are delighted to be partnering with The Criterion Collection and being given permission to screen classic films and new restorations from the Janus Films catalogue, the close business partner of Criterion.
Janus Films was formed in 1956 and is an American film distribution company credited with introducing numerous films, now considered masterpieces of world cinema, to American audiences. Janus is now run by Jonathan Turrell and Peter Becker, who also own The Criterion Collection, and is an active theatrical distributor of world cinema across the United States with The Criterion Collection releasing it’s films on both DVD and Blu-ray.
The Criterion Collection was formed in 1984 and is dedicated to publishing important classic and contemporary films from around the world in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements.
No matter the medium - from laserdisc to DVD and Blu Ray to streaming on The Criterion Channel - Criterion has maintained its pioneering commitment to presenting each film as its maker would want it seen, in state-of-the-art restorations with special features designed to encourage repeated watching and deepen the viewer’s appreciation of the art of the film.
Each month we will screen a title from the Janus Films catalogue and we hope in the future we may be able to hold event screenings around the release of new Criterion UK releases.
