Suffolk Film Music Festival is East Anglia’s first film music festival. The festival was quietly launched in February 2021 with Score Masters, a roundtable celebration of the careers of John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith in their birthday week, with contributors including Oscar-nominated composer David Newman, Grammy-winning conductor Leonard Slatkin and recording engineer Bruce Botnick. The roundtable is FREE to view at the IFT’s YouTube channel and has racked up over 5,000 individual plays so far.
Suffolk Film Music Festival officially launches as part of SPILL Festival 2021, before a standalone festival in 2022 with a week-long run of films, events, workshops, Q&As and schools’ events celebrating the unique spell cast between music and picture. From the Golden Era bombast of Erich Wolfgang Korngold to the wall-to-wall radical radio show approach in American Graffitti and Isaac Hayes' iconic Shaft, music for film has defined generations. And we think it's worth celebrating.
